Thanks to Silva and Homeij this Silva Cross Trail 5 X for putting this Silva Cross Trail 5 X at my disposal to perform this test.

Silva Cross Trail 5 X, versatility and lightness.

First impressions

The Cross Trail 5X was developed by Silva for maximum versatility without reducing its efficiency.

With the Cross Trail 5X, you no longer need to buy several headlights to light up all your activities.

It's supplied with 3 attachment modes, the headband, a helmet mount and a bicycle mount.

During your running, you will wear it in frontal mode. The back battery is light enough not to shake at the back of the head during the stride.

For the bike, you can either use the helmet mount or the handlebar mount according to your needs and desire.

This helmet mount can also be used for your mountain activities such as ski touring, night skiing or mountaineering.

The changes of support are done in a jiffy, just unclip the head of the lamp to clip it on its other mount. The operation takes only a few seconds.

A power cable extension is provided for helmet mode and handlebar mode, so that you can adapt the length of the cable to your liking.

When you use the lamp in handlebar mode, you just have to attach the battery to the bike frame by means of the velcro of the cover which surrounds it, so that you are not inconvenienced by the batterie moving around.

With a power of 500 True Lumens, the Silva Cross Trail 5X offers plenty to enlighten you in all your outdoor activities.

Daily use

The Silva Cross Trail 5X offers 4 lighting modes, a full power of 500 True Lumens, a half power mode of 250 True Lumens, an economy mode of 80 True Lumens and a flashing mode for emergency situations where your presence must be reported.

The lamp beam benefits from Silva Flowlight technology.

Depending on how you tilt the lamp on its support, the beam adapts.

The more the lamp is tilted down, the wider and shorter the beam is. The more the lamp is tilted upwards, the narrower and longer the beam is. This system is extremely reliable, simple and very easy to use even in delicate situations.

To turn on and off the Silva, a large button is located on the side of the head. Silva thought of winter uses by making this button easy to operate with gloves.

The Silva Cross Trail 5X is water resistant according to the IP5X standard, which guarantees you flawless use in all weathers and in all your activities.

The Silva Cross Trail 5X charges using a standard usb charger.

The autonomy of the headlamp is very good compared to its small size.

Count two hours at full power and 6 hours in economy mode.

Note that these autonomies are realized at an outdoor temperature of -5 ° C

Don't forget that Silva, it's Swedish, they are used to the cold there ...

At a temperature of 20 ° C, the autonomy at full power will go up to 4h and 8h in economy mode.

There is more than enough autonomy for your longest races.

If now you are going for an ultra trail, you can carry with you several spare batteries to meet your needs throughout the night .....

The Silva Cross Trail 5X is built to last and endure all your activities, even the most committed.

In conclusion

If you are looking for a lamp that is powerful, compact and versatile, the Silva Cross Trail 5X is made for you.

The modularity of its multiple mount systems will allow you to maximize its use on all of your outdoor activities.

Personally, I find the flashing mode extremely useful for my day cycling trainig. The power is such that it allows you to make yourself visible by the other road users even in day light ...

Its manufacturing quality will guarantee you many years of use.

Due to its small size you will always have it in your bag and it will always be ready to guide you through the night!

See you soon in nature.
