I would like to thanks CRKT and Homeij for putting this Crkt Hombel Edc at my disposal to perform this test.

Crkt Homefront EDC, the first Crkt equipped with "Fied Strip" technology.

First Impressions

While unpacking, the CRKT Homefront gives right away an feel of quality and robustness.

Its reinforced nylon handle is covered with small streaks to improve the grip.

While most brands create ever more aggressive designs, CRKT goes against the current with this Homefront by offering a unusual look "World War Two".

The Homefront was designed by Ken Onion and for the first time offers the "Field Strip" technology. This new technology was awarded the 2016 Blade Show.

The Homefront Edc blade is made of steel 1.4116

The Homefront's manufacturing quality is perfect, well above average in this price range.

Everyday use

What is this new "Field Strip" technology ?

The idea of Ken Onion is very simple but terribly effective, to be able to disassemble and reassemble the Homefront on the field in no time and without the use of any tools !

I already see the most skeptical among you sketching a smile and thinking that this can not be done without risking losing a piece... well not at all. Once disassembled the knife consists of three distinct parts and none of them possess screws, springs, or small bits that can scatter in nature.

The disassembly is very simple and is done in three phases.

First operate the clip located just below the star. Then unscrew the integrated wheel to the grip of the handle.  Finally, separate the knife into three parts and that's it !

Since these three parts do not have any pieces that can be detached, you just need to clean them under water and reassemble the Homefront.

The reassembly is as the disassembly, a real child's play ....

The ergonomics and grip of the Homefront are very good and have nothing to envy the very high-end knives.

The opening of the knife is done by pulling backwards the ring located on the blade. Simple, easy and efficient. The ring is large enough to be operated with gloves.

The blade locks with a traditional Liner lock, which ensures optimum safety to prevent it from accidentally closing on your fingers.

The Homefront is very sharp "Out off the box", no need to use a sharpening stone. The steel 1.4116 holds its edge for a long time.

The Homefront pocket clip is placed at the top of the handle. This allows discrete carrying for EDC use.

In conclusion

I own a CRKT M16 13SF for over 10 years. I took it around the world and I have never disappointed of it. I can tell you without any hesitation that this Homefront will fulfill the same role.

You may tell me that for a knife intended for EDC use, you will not be forced to dismantle it daily to clean it. But have you ever noticed the amount of dust and other dirts that are stuck in your knife by the simple fact of carrying it everyday in your pocket without even using it?

With the Homefront, your knife remains clean as on the first day.

Thanks to its grip, robust blade, ease of use and maintenance, CRKT's "Trust in Hand" slogan fits like a glove to this Homefront.

And it's not every day that such an innovative and functional idea as the "Field Strip" appears in the world of knives, so you better get one fast...

The Crkt Homefront will be your faithful companion for many years to come !
